Bipolar affective disorder

Bipolar affective disorder is a disorder in which people experience alternating episodes of mania (intense elation, overly high self-esteem, unusual talkativeness, racing thoughts, decreased need for sleep, distractibility, involvement in uncharacteristic impulsive behavior) anddepression, with periods of normal mood in between the two extremes.
