Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is a disorder in which anxiety is experienced chronically and persistently in a variety of circumstances. The anxiety experienced by individuals with GAD is severe enough to be quite emotionally distressing, and may also interfere with their ability to function socially, occupationally, or in other important areas. Individuals with generalized anxiety disorder are often seen by friends and family as chronic worriers who worry excessively about life circumstances such as health, finances, relationships, home management, work responsibilities, and various other issues.
